A device used for lifting or pulling in which a cable is wound onto a rotating drum.
A machine fitted with horizontal drums or barrels on which fibre or wire ropes are wound. Used for hoisting or handling.
 
 
Note :
Ship winches are classified according to use, and may be hand or power driven.
