Diplomatic Conference & WWA Seminar

The Diplomatic Conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 25 to 28 February 2020 reached the result it was aiming at. This Conference marked a very important step for IALA as the Convention for the future Organization under intergovernmental status was adopted. More than 239 persons from 62 States participated in the Conference or were observers. Delegates with credentials from 50 States signed the Final Act of the Conference adopting the text of the Convention and two resolutions: one resolution on languages of the Organization and one on the signing ceremony in Paris in November 2020. The World-Wide Academy Seminar on the Safety of Navigation, Effective Implementation of IALA Standards was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on the 24th February 2020, the day before the Diplomatic Conference started. The event was very successful with 130 participants. The programme was divided in 3 sections: Introduction of IALA Standards; IALA Standards in practice; How to claim compliance with IALA Standards. Many delegates attending the conference took the opportunity to follow the discussion of the seminar about the importance of IALA Standards.
