IALA website improvements bring more user-friendly features
Since the 19th IALA Conference was held in Incheon, Republic of Korea (28 May-2 June 2018), the IALA website has been substantially reorganized in order to provide a more user friendly interface.
Participants in committee meetings can now access Meeting Documents directly from the top menu. Direct access to all the IALA Guidance Documents is now also available from the top menu. This makes it easier for maritime community stakeholders to look up those they wish to consult, namely, IALA Standards, Recommendations, Guidelines, Manuals and Model Courses, and also the IALA Dictionary. All Guidance Documents except manuals are free to download.
The section in the top menu labelled Technical has been reorganized to provide easy access to particular domains. These range from Data Modelling (e.g. IALA S-200 product specifications) to Connectivity (e.g. VDES, AIS Application Specific Messages), Positioning Navigation and Timing (e.g. DGNSS identification numbers), e-Navigation Testbeds, and many others. IALA is keen to expand the information and also update it regularly with the newest developments and welcomes feedback from members to support this important task (contact@iala-aism.org).
Members and Industrial members in particular can still enjoy the benefits of providing information about their activity through their profile, which continues to be accessible through their member’s account. General information about the IALA membership is available from the Membership area (http://www.iala-aism.org/about-iala/membership/), which also lists members by geographical area and by the products or services they offer.
A brand new website feature is a short, animated video introducing IALA and summarising (in 90 seconds) its aims and what it does (http://www.iala-aism.org/about-iala/introduction-to-iala/). IALA developed the video to promote awareness of its existence and activities among the general public and to reach non-members. Members are encouraged to circulate it widely.
