SIRA workshop
The IALA World-Wide Academy delivered its first course on the use of the new Simplified IALA Risk Assessment (SIRA) method, which was approved by Council as Guideline G1138 in December and is available free of charge on the IALA website, in its Headquarters on 17 and 18 January 2018. The course was attended by nine participants, including 3 IALA staff members, four from France and two from Bahrain. Participants were divided into two Groups acting as “consultants” to their respective Competent Authorities. Group A conducted a full SIRA analysis of risks in Nuku’Alofa Harbour; the major port in Tonga. Group B did the same for the area from Canouan to Carriacou in St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean Sea. The final task was to make their cases for additional AtoN and the justification for the necessary funding to the “Minister of Transport” – the Dean. All nine participants demonstrated their competency in the use of SIRA on this intense course and were awarded international certificates recognising their achievement as the picture below shows. It is expected that further such courses will be delivered as the demand for them requires.
